Vicky Shemie: Inspiring the Midtown Community Since 2005
Vicky Shemie joined Midtown more than 10 years ago to train for triathlons. Apparently, the mother of three with a background in political speech writing, real estate, teaching and medical research had a little time to spare and decided that a 2K swim followed by a 40K bike ride and a 10K run would do the trick.
“I won most of the races, but only because I was often the only competitor in my age category.” Now that’s what you call being modest!
A few trophies later, Vicky moved on to tennis, tackling this new sport with the same strength and dedication she had invested in triathlon training.
“Tennis has opened me up to a whole new world of camaraderie and has led me to discover the many benefits of being a Midtown member. I no longer go to the gym just to stay fit – I go because it’s a way of life!”
A Typical Day at the Gym
For Vicky a typical day at Midtown starts with tennis doubles, then possibly singles, followed by a spinning class and a good stretching session. Every week, Vicky also takes a tennis lesson with Iveta and trains once or twice with Teddy. Physical activities are often topped off with a healthy meal with friends at the bistro or the occasional massage with Cheryl at the spa. Life is good!
“The hardest part of my day is leaving the club, which is why you will also see me at the weekly wine class given by Sommelier Jean-Benoit Hinse, the club’s Food and Beverage Director.”
Latest Achievements
This year, Vicky is once again meeting her fiercest opponent ‒ herself – by taking part in the 60 Day Transformation Challenge. “Working towards my transformation goals for 60 days with help from the Midtown staff has rekindled my passion for sports and encouraged me to take even better care of my body. But the best part is the effect my lifestyle has had on my adult children, all three of whom are triathletes! We sometimes underestimate the influence we have on our families and friends, but if that’s all I had achieved in the past year, it would be a tremendous feat!”

I'd like to express my gratitude for an opportunity to know and work with Vicky Shemie. No matter where she is, on the tennis court, in the gym or in the MCafé, Vicki brings her smile, contagious energy and good humor with her all the time. No matter what activity she participates in, she encourages her team mates, friends and all the people around her to excercise, to do something for themselves and the others. Vicki is always among the first to support all the special events and fundraisers in the club. Her amazing active life is such a great example for all of us.
