A Post-Collegiate Athlete's Dream Team
I joined my first team, the Jaguars soccer team, at 5-years-old. We were seven not-yet-coordinated kindergarteners with an overly optimistic dad for a coach.
Since being a Jaguar, I have been a member of many teams – youth basketball teams, high school and college swim & dive teams, a sorority, volunteer organizations and marketing teams – with the most recent being Midtown’s marketing team.
Being part of a team has genuinely been amongst the more fulfilling opportunities I have had the privilege to experience. In my 20 years of identifying as a teammate, I have learned how to effectively express myself, value diverse thought, create a positive atmosphere, manage conflict, and be a supportive leader. And in turn, I’ve benefited from support, motivation, collaboration, empowerment, teamwork, and friendship.
I joined Midtown’s marketing team for many reasons, one being the quick realization that I found a place that embodies everything I have ever loved about being part of a team. I even had the opportunity to experience an extension of these traits outside the workplace when I joined the team for an afternoon of Cardio Tennis at the Midtown Chicago club.
While I haven’t played tennis in years, a faded sticker with the date 4/19/04 on the inside of my racket as proof, my rusty skills didn’t keep the five of us from laughing, high-fiving, encouraging one another, working together, and, of course, sweating.
This moment, and those that have followed my first day at Midtown, can be characterized as effortless as I officially became part of my new team.
With a love for writing, and fitness, health and wellness at the core of my interests, I look forward to combining the two as I settle into my new role as Assistant Content Marketing Manager and take on Midtown’s blog.
From fitness to nutrition to everything in between, I hope you enjoy our weekly blog posts as much as I enjoy writing them.
