Building the New Club
To make it as easy as possible for you to both travel to and enjoy the club during the expansion project and road construction, we will routinely update you on the status of both projects. Here's the latest.
Cardio & Strength Training We have fully relocated all cardio and strength training equipment to a new temporary fitness zone in the Main Building. M3 All group fitness and small group training classes are taking place in M3.
Building 2 The new Building 2 is taking shape! We will soon begin working on the interior of the building to create three new tennis courts and two dedicated practice lanes to accompany the existing paddle courts. Building 2 will re-open on August 25, 2015.
Parking Garage Work on the four-level, covered parking garage is well underway, and will be completed in September 2015. Once it opens, we will be able to shift our attention to building the new club, scheduled for completion by the end of 2016.
Air Conditioning We completed the initial installation phase of three new air conditioning units dedicated to serve the tennis courts in the Main Building. This week, we will begin installing three additional units. We plan to complete this second phase of installation by mid-July. We will complete the final phase (three more units) by the end of July.
Elston Re-Route Roadway Construction The Chicago Department of Transportation has informed us that they are ready to begin work on the roadway project (Elston Re-Route). Fullerton Avenue is now reduced to one lane in each direction, east of the Elston and Damen intersection. This will allow the work crews to make storm and sanitary sewer and water main connections at the relocated Elston and Fullerton intersection. Pedestrians will be directed to the north side of Fullerton during this stage of construction. It is anticipated that the lane reductions will remain in place until September 2015. The demolition of the south side of Building 2 is now complete. CDOT contractors will be on site to begin to prepare it for the new Elston Avenue roadway and utility construction. Lane reduction will remain in place on Damen and Elston in front of the club to complete this work. In addition, demolition of the former Whirleyball and Dunkin Donuts buildings is scheduled to begin this week, and will continue through mid-August. We recommend planning ahead and leaving plenty of time for travel in order to arrive on time for your activities at the club. We also recommend that you stay alert to new traffic patterns for vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians.
