Your Boutique Fitness Experience All Under One Roof
An evolution in the fitness industry started in the early 2000s when boutique fitness studios broke the mold of big chain gyms. Rather than fighting this evolution, Midtown embraced this new wave of community-focused fitness programming as an opportunity to restructure our club and redefine “the gym”. Today, that vision is now a 575,000 sq. ft. fitness oasis that brings together the best of boutique fitness programming with launch of our five studio spaces: RIDE, The Theater, The Field, EverybodyFights, and Samadhi.
RIDE
With our RIDE studio, we are introducing three new cycle classes; PWR, VIBE, and SPRINT by Les Mills, to our group exercise schedule and adding to our list of firsts, as the first fitness club to use Precor’s Spinner Chrono Power Bike. Each of our three classes offers something for all of our members to enjoy, whether you’re a cycle-class rookie, a high-intensity cyclist, or a music-driven exerciser.
Our RIDE studio features a stadium-style set up with 50 bikes, MYZONE technology, and a giant, Las Vegas LED quality screen that runs a variety of video sequences, and even a Cubs game when we’re batting well.
Oh, did we mention American Chopper custom-designed one of our bikes? Mic drop.
The Theater
Picking up the mic ... and taking the stage in our new group exercise studio, The Theater. Breaking long standing tradition in group exercise studios, you won’t find any mirrors in this space, only an instructor’s stage, MYZONE technology, SMARTBAR by Les Mills equipment, professional-quality sound and lighting, and a stellar view of the surrounding neighborhood out floor-to-ceiling windows.
The Theater is your home for Les Mills programming, WERQ®, Zumba®, and Barre classes. And if you like Goose Island beer, you’re really going to like this. On the 3rd Monday of every month, participants of our 312 class at 6pm are invited to enjoy a brew on the house afterward at Chromium.
Yes, 312 is a Goose Island beer and Chicago’s area code, but it’s also one of Midtown’s signature classes, featuring three workouts, one instructor, with no two workouts the same. Whether you’re new to fitness or a fitness enthusiast, this hands-on class focuses on strength, step exercises, and core/flexibility for a full body workout. And you heard about the free beer, right?
The Field
What’s better than watching football? Honestly, we’re not sure, but we like to think working out on The Field is a close second. Midtown’s Field is 40-yards of turf indoors and 60-yards of turf on the outdoor terrace, with programming that is 100 percent unique to our club. From the vernacular and the verbiage to the music and styles, the programming is like nothing you’ve experience before and nothing you will experience outside Midtown.
Another of Midtown’s signature programs, Firehouse is designed to turn your competitive edge inward as you aim to be faster and stronger than your were the day before. A workout of the week will be posted on The Field’s blackboard and you’re invited to either join the Firehouse tribe during scheduled classes or tackle the workout on your own time.
You’ll also find VOLTAGE, The Mob, Battle, Youth Skills & Drills, and Core Blast on The Field.
If the massive Midtown name stitched into the turf didn’t catch your eye, maybe the colorful equipment did. The Field is equipped with the best fitness tools and toys that Escape Fitness offers. You’ll find Bulgarian bags, giant tires, battle ropes, ViPRs, medicine balls, slam balls, sleds, and more. As National Program Director Richard Earney says, “You name it, we got it on The Field."
EverybodyFights
We’ve brought one of the fastest growing boutique fitness trends in the industry to Midtown with Illinois’ first ever EverybodyFights studio. The brainchild of George Foreman III, this Boston-based company brings together the best of boxing with bags-based classes designed around famous fight sequences. We are proud to offer these 45-minute classes for free on our group exercise schedule. Just show with your boxing gloves and claim one of our 26 bag.
For those of you looking for a smaller class size and the ability to reserve a bag, paid small group training will be available starting this fall with the introduction of EBF’s Fight Series. In this class, you'll explore beyond the bag and climb into the ring to spar, skip, shadowbox, and more.
Now, we’re no George Foreman III, but all of our EBF instructors have gone through extensive training with the founder himself to bring our best to the studio floor. Don’t believe me, head over to our Instagram account to see video from our training sessions.
Samadhi
A creative collaboration between Midtown's Chicago and Rochester clubs, Samadhi embodies all things mind body. When you walk into the space, you’re greeted by a life-sized Buddha seated in Samadhi pose and a lounge area where you can mingle before class and further relax afterward.
But the features don’t stop there. In the middle of our Samadhi studio, you’ll find two large trees created from wood shavings by artist Alex Morales. Ok, we'll admit that these trees are covering support beams, but more importantly, they bare significance to the yoga community. The tree sculptures are made of 377 pieces of wood, the number in the Fibonacci sequence of numbers, which is considered to be nature’s numbering system.
Enough about the features, let’s talk programming. Samadhi offers 12 classes that cater to a wide range of experiences and interests. If you’re new to yoga, begin your journey with our entry-level class, Yoga Roots, to find your roots in traditional yoga poses. For experienced yogis, Yoga Lab is lead by our most seasoned instructors who will guide you through exploration with a new theme every month. Looking for a new kind of yoga experience? Our Yoga Jam class won’t fall short. Featuring house music with deep beats, this yoga class will energize you while encouraging individuality with 10-15 minutes of freestyle to practice your favorite poses.
No mat, no problem. You’re invited to use one of our Manduka mats available outside the studio.
Don't worry, we didn't forget about Pilates. Across from Samadhi, you'll find a spacious room with eight reformers and a Pilates Cadillac. Head over to our group exercise schedule and small group training registration to check out the range of progamming we offer in this space.
